But it’s hard to attract clients, and easy to fall into a “feast and famine” cycle because marketing is hard. It feels like something you have to do, but it’s never straightforward. Blogging and posting on social media can feel soulless, with little engagement in exchange for a lot of work. Facebook ads are expensive and never really deliver what you hoped they would.
You’re willing to do the work, because you know you can help people, but it’s hard to keep motivated when you don’t know where the next client is coming from. The people who do make enquiries usually start the conversation with, “How much does it cost?” without understanding the value you can deliver. I know exactly what that feels like. I lost my first business because I was overwhelmed trying to attract the right clients. I had 15 years of sales and marketing experience. I had an MBA. I kept telling myself I should be able to make this work… but I couldn’t.
